  1. I haven’t listened to the episode yet but thought I would jump in now to say how awesome this quilt is, Frances. You’ve done a beautiful job!

I’ve thought of you often this week, back to when you were doing your simply amy simply frances quilt, as I am currently quilting a queen size quilt for the first time on my average sewing machine. I chose plain vertical straight lines and I am very glad I did, this thing is a beast to work through the machine!!

Can’t wait to listen to the episode!

  2. Love the quilt and the close up show you did good with your piecing. Love the way it looks on the bed. I will be downloading when I get home from work.

I would listen at work but .. the block all MP3 files… Bummer. No Frances at lunch.

  3. I am so impressed with the storm at sea quilt. Do you find yourself walking by the bedroom door just to take another peek? I would so be doing that if this was in my house. Nice

  4. I, too, often have a difficult time deciding how to quilt something. I can see what I have to do in this part of a quilt or that part – I rarely have a clear concept of how the “whole” quilting thing will turn out. I do look at the quilting on the Quilt Show slideshows to try and get a sense of how other quilters tackle this challenge but I think it is a process.

Will’s quilt is beautiful. I bet he feels special sleeping under it.

  5. great quilt!! and loved your latest episode, especially the part about the stressed teacher who was so thankful how orderly your party went 🙂
having no kids i have no idea how you parents manage all these things, i would freak out with a room full of 3rd graders..
but: very funny to listen about!!

  6. Stormy Weather turned out great! I love scrappy quilts. My son appreciates quilts too (but not knitting!) A couple of books on machine quilting worth looking at are Quilting Makes The Quilt by Lee Cleland and Barbara Johannah’s Crystal Piecing. I’ve quilted over 1,000 quilts and I still need to draw on paper or use tracing paper if a quilter wants something custom in an unusual block.

  7. What a beautiful quilt! Will is a lucky kid.

On another note, THANK YOU for mentioning Colm Toibin’s “Brooklyn” in a recent podcast. I found it in a used bookshop and started reading the other night. It reads like a quiet, unassuming story- and yet, the characters and descriptions showed up in my dreams both nights after reading. In that way, “Brooklyn” reminded me of my favorite Wendell Berry novel, “Hannah Coulter.” Beautiful writing! This was my first Toibin novel, but it won’t be my last.

  8. Hi Frances. Same day, different podcast. Hey, Thursday gal, we all understand – families first. Someday your kids won’t be around all the time so so glad you’re taking time do do Halloween parties! This quilt looks terrific!! I did a quilt that had those Peeky and Spike sections (odd triangle if you don’t know what I mean) and they are not easy nor forgiving. Your quilt looks great! Isn’t it nice to have kids that appreciate your work? I have a couple of those too though mine live out of my house and actually in other cities and states Love your quilt Frances. Thank you for helping me get through the tedious longarm quilting I’m doing right now. Working on some barter quilting on a quilt with cross stitch quilting and have about three more blocks to do so thank you, thank you for podcasting and keeping me company. This should have probably gone in an email to you …
