Just finished reading Manhattan Beach by Jennifer Egan. My bookclub was split on it, but I thought it was great. https://www.amazon.com/Manhattan-Beach-Novel-Jennifer-Egan/dp/1476716730/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1523554354&sr=1-3&keywords=manhattan+beach

Also recently finished: The Driest Season by Meghan Kenney.

  1. FRANCES,
    .
BEWARE of KONA JET BLACK ….

I pre-washed my Kona Jet Black 6 times soaking overnight and it was still bleeding … treated with RETAYNE and Sythropol and the stupid fabric still bleeds … Yes I use color catchers each time …. JUST BE CAREFUL.

    NONNIE

  2. Love your Fox and Geese quilt! I just saw American Made Brand in the AQS catalog, if that is any help. I enjoyed listening to your podcast while on my walk today.

  3. How fun to hear my name on your podcast this week! Yes, we met at the Mid Atlantic Quilt Show. I am still listening to you, just commenting in my head these days.

Yes, you should try Kona Premium Jet black. There are so many blacks out there, if you always buy the same one, it makes your quilting life much easier. I am working in a quilt shop now, and see many people coming in looking for a specific white or black that they bought months or even years ago. Sometimes I just ask them: what would your grandmother do? Your grandmother would probably use the closest fabric she could fine to the one she had and not worry about finding an exact match.

You and your podcast were mentioned on the Hobbies Up To Here podcast this week as one of their favorite quilting podcasts. It made me happy to hear that!

  4. Hey, Frances! We did meet at the Mid Atlantic Quilt Show many years ago. How fun to hear my name on your podcast.

I like Kona Premium Jet Black and haven’t had the bleeding problems that Nonnie has, but I have only used it on quilts where most of the colors were very dark. Whatever black you decide to use, my advice is just choose one and stick with it. That way you won’t spend your life trying to track down the right color. Or even better, do what our grandmothers would have done: used whatever black they had on hand, even if it wasn’t a perfect match.

I commented a couple of days ago, but my comment must have been eaten by the internet. Sorry if you get a double dose of me this week!

  5. Hey Frances …. Can you post the link to the QUILT organization you do the podcast interviews on ? I tried looking it up but I lost the link when my computer crashed. I wanted to join but could not remember the name of the organization …. DO YOU know how many bookmarks in my quilt folder I have … no wonder I can never find anything.

  6. Hey Frances! I am a little late listening to this podcast. I have been out of town with work and then slammed with work in the office. I don’t allow myself to listen except when I quilt because that gives me more motivation to sew. Anyway, as always, I love your podcast.
Before I forget, what dates in October will you be in Marietta GA at the East Cobb Quilt Guild? My birthday is in October and I am telling my husband I want to come hear you and see your trunk show for my birthday! 🙂 I would like to meet Pam and Lynn also.
You mentioned you wanted to make a Double Wedding Ring quilt. So do I! I have wanted to make one since I began this quilting journey. It is a little scary and I know it will take forever but I really hope to see my bed with a DWR quilt that I made before I am so old I CAN’T see to do it! LOL
I know there were several other things I wanted to say but of course I have forgotten them. I am actually impressed with myself that I remembered to comment anywhere besides my head. Anyway, I love love love listening to you! Give Travis the quilt dog a hug for me. Have a great week.
