Me and my quilty friends at the Durham Bulls Ballpark on National Quilting Day!

Sorry to be late with this one; this episode seemed to take forever to put together!

The movie I mention on Quilt Diary Day 3 is called “Without a Trace,” not “Missing,” as I say on the episode.

Math update: I say that if you have (4) 2.5″ squares, you end up with a 4″ block, but actually you get a 4.5″ block. Sigh.

  1. FRANCES, Did you look up birds in the air in you EQ7 …. if you use the search it should pop up … it can be resized to the desired size.

Enjoyed the podcast …. I will do a podcast just so you can comment…

  2. Thank you, Frances, for being up-front about your issue with cutting. I do stuff like that all the time, and had just made a similar error right before I listened.

I appreciate your rambling. You have such interesting things to say. It is like sitting down to tea with a quilting friend.

  3. Oh, I screw up cutting, and sewing, and just about everything to do with quilting, yet I can’t stop making quilts!

  4. You know that I love your rambling.

You are a brave soul for using Civil War fabrics – or more evolved than I am. I just don’t think I could do it. You did choose very well, though. Prussian Blue and Turkey Red will be pretty and not depressing.

Please use the Triangle Technique to make your half square triangles PLEASE!!! http://www.artquiltmaker.com/blog/2011/09/triangle-technique/

You might want to put block patterns for the books (Birds in the Air) as downloads on your site.

Now that you have two donation quilts, do one simply and the other more complicated. You want them to be inspiring. You want potential makers to be inspired to join. I would suggest doing a couple of quilts in the same pattern, but with different fabrics. this will allow your potential volunteers to see how a block changes when you use different fabrics.

I do comment while I listen otherwise I would forget what I wanted to say. Too much going on to keep everything in my brain. This does mean that I don’t really listen to your podcast on the go, which is why I get behind. Also, to be honest, I am addicted to audiobooks and can’t stop listening to them.

Thank you for commenting on my blog. I know everyone is busy, but I love getting comments and really appreciate them.

    Have a great weekend.

  5. I’m off to Ireland tomorrow. I had intentionally saved this podcast to listen to on my flight, knowing that I would feel comforted and at home listening to your voice and latest adventures. Alas, I couldn’t resist, and just finished it while packing lol!
I can’t for your book to come out Frances! I’m so looking forward to it!
Thank you for sharing about your book club selections and your cutting oopsies. I’m not alone! My hubby is reading “The Boys In The Boat” right now, and he’s enjoying it immensely.
I’m taking some hand piecing and knitting with me. I need to complete drawing the stitching lines on my HST’s before I board. 🙂 My book club is reading Treasure Island, so that will be close at hand as well.
Have a great week, and I look forward to your next podcast!
    Hugs,
    Dori

  6. Had to laugh at the turnout for the quilting in public. I think it goes hand in hand with the “invisible quilter” that you wrote about; the people who planned the day probably have no idea what quilting entails. I had someone ask me just the other day how quilting and knitting are different, and I had to practice my LaMaze breathing to keep from being snarky when I answered. I am trying to look at these as teachable moments and not take it personally.

  7. I have had such left-handed quilting problems lately that I am stopping for a few days. How I don’t see upside down blocks or blocks on the wrong side just amazes me. I may as well bounce off walls instead for awhile instead of ripping out more stitches. Only the other lefties in my family get this frustration, but I am for sure the most affected by the lefty brain of all of us. On the happy hand though, I really enjoyed this podcast. Travis just grabs your heart too in his pictures!
