Last week I received one of the most amazing gifts I’ve ever been given–a quilt from quilty friends across the world. The quilt was engineered by Daisy of Lazy Daisy Quilts, who put out the call for squares from twilters everywhere after she heard about my mother’s cancer. She wanted to a way for our wonderful community to offer comfort in a time of difficulty. For a nice, well-lit photo of the quilt, go to Daisy’s blog, here:

These photos don’t do this beautiful quilt justice, but to give you an idea …

  2. What a gorgeous quilt and such a special gift. Just know that these people are a drop in the bucket compared to all of the listeners who have been thinking of you and praying for your mom’s recovery – I can’t imagine the size of the quilt if we had all made blocks!
I love the idea of making a sampler quilt all red/white or blue/white. It would be stunning.

  3. how lovely! Just when you think that the world is so messed up and people simply do not care enough about each other, a great group of folks go and do something as fabulous as this! Amazing how people connect and care for one another from around the globe. I am inspired by the ladies who jumped in and supported you. Wow! How cool it must be every time you look at this quilt. When you wrap yourself in it its like receiving a hug from all those who participated. Just lovely!

  4. What a lovely quilt and a lovely thought! Quilters are so wonderful!

I wanted to encourage you to try out a once-a-month housekeeper. I hired one about a year ago when I had surgery and couldn’t do any cleaning (and no one seemed to be picking up the slack). I thought it was going to be a one-time deal, but when I saw the things that they cleaned that I had been meaning to do for months (kitchen blinds, cabinet fronts, french door, etc) I knew I needed them to come back. Now they come once a month and it is such a relief to know that all I have to do is keep things picked up and wiped down. Someone else is going to come in and scrub out the shower and clean the baseboards. It is an extravagance, but it helps me to balance out the rest of my mom duties. I only wish I could afford it twice a month- but I’ll take what I can get 🙂

  5. The quilt is beautiful and the love and concern behind the gift even more so. What a particularly special person Daisy is to co-ordinate such a marvelous gift.

I’m like you with parcels… love getting them. Like you I am trying to be more frugal these days… husband approaching retirement so going to have to get used to living on less money. Decided to make an effort this year and since the end of January we have had a heap of pet expenses. I would rather have spent it all on fabric but we have to care for them don’t we

  6. Such a lovely quilt and such a thoughtful loving gift. Quilters rule or is that rock?

I bet the designer of Scrapitude (from Sandy’s guild?) is proud of it too.
